10 Years of Dora the Explorer

It has been 10 years since the lovable, little Dora the Explorer hit the scene.  Still going strong, with TV episodes, plenty of branding, and even a live-action/CGI movie in the works, it is no secret that everyone is crazy for Dora!  This tenacious little girl spends her time exploring the many interesting locations that the world has to offer in addition to helping others and staying active by playing her most favorite sports.  She exemplifies persistence and exudes positivity in all of her exciting adventures.  Dora's sunny disposition and close ties to her family and heritage are just some of the things that make people follow her on her expeditions time and time again in addition to inspiring others to set out on some explorations of their very own!

Developed by Chris Gifford, Valerie Walsh, Rick Velleu, and Eric Weiner, this animated gem debuted to America's youth in the year 2000.  Immediately greeted with a warm reception, it has appeared on a plethora of broadcast and cable stations, including Nickelodeon, Nick Jr., and CBS.  The Dora the Explorer television program showed its popularity and presence in the Latin community as well when it aired for several years on such Spanish stations as Telemundo and it continues to be shown today on the highly-watched Univision television channel.

While the show's main character is a constant source of inspiration and entertainment for children from all walks of life, the supporting characters are equally as loved.  Dora the Explorer has something for everyone, from Boots the Monkey to Swiper the Fox, Isa the Iguana, Benny the Bull and Tico the Squirrel, this veritable zoo of a family is always there to support Dora in all of her many, exciting adventures.  However another wildly popular, yet unexpected, character in the show has always been Dora's purple backpack.  Her magic satchel provides everything she needs to complete her explorations and brings a distinctive fantasy aspect to the television program, encouraging imagination for all its viewers.

While many cartoons tend to come and go, Dora has tremendous staying power.  The show sends positive and inspirational messages to the children that love this pint-sized explorer.  Also, the presence of a Hispanic cartoon character has been revolutionary to the history of television as well as to the Latin community.  This ground-breaking television series has extended far beyond the small-screen with its many toys, clothing items, and accessories.  Often seeing a tyke with a purple backpack of their own, it is easy to see everyone's affinity for Dora the Explorer!
