Grumpy Old Troll (Karaoke Version In the Style of Dora the Explorer)

The Grumpy Old Troll is a recurring character on the “Dora the Explorer” animated series.   He stands guard at the end of his bridge and Dora must solve a riddle, with the help of her friends, before she can cross the bridge.   Although he is grumpy, he can be friendly to Dora and her friends.   We even saw Dora and Boots help him prepare to marry his best friend Petunia.

This Grumpy Old Troll reminds us of the troll in the classic Norwegian story called “The Three Billy Goats Gruff.”     “Three Billy Goats Gruff” was included in a compilation by Peter Christen Asbjornsen and Jorgen Moe in a collection of Norwegian stories called Norske Folkeeventyr.   In this classic tale there are 3 billy goats that want to cross a bridge to the other side so that they can get some grass to eat.   A troll is guarding the bridge.  The first goat attempts to cross and the troll says that he will eat him.  That billy goat tells him that his brother is better to eat and is coming next.  The troll lets the first billy goat cross and then waits for the second billy goat to come.   When the second billy goat comes to cross the bridge he tells the troll that he has a bigger brother that is much better to eat.  The troll lets the second goat cross and waits in anticipation for third billy goat.  When the third billy goat comes to the bridge he is very large and knocks the troll over the bridge into the stream.   This tale is not like the one in “The Dora the Explorer” series, but does bare some similarities.

Our grumpy old troll does vigilantly guard the bridge, but he does allow people to cross once they have solved a riddle or puzzle.
We get a better look into the troll’s life in “The Grumpy Old Troll Gets Married.”    In this special episode the troll is marrying his best friend Petunia.  He mentions that Petunia is special to him and makes his laugh.    But before he can get married he must getting his wedding rings that he left at his grandmother’s house.   Of course, viewing are going on one of the classic Dora the Explorer adventures to get the rings and arrive at the wedding on time.     Although Swiper does attempt to do some swiping, the Grumpy Old Troll is still happy that he will see him at  the reception later.

Like many of the other characters on “Dora the Explorer”,   The Grumpy Old Troll has a catchy song that introduces him in the episodes that he appears.

The lyrics for the song are:

I'm the grumpy old troll who lives under the bridge
Hey, I'm the grumpy old troll who lives under the bridge, who's there?
If you wanna come over, all you have to do is this
All you have to do is this

I'm the grumpy old troll who lives under the bridge
Hey, I'm the grumpy old troll who lives under the bridge, who's there?
If you wanna come over, all you have to do is this
All you have to do is this

Solve my riddle
