About Dora the Explorer
Dora the Explorer is a little girl that has captivated an audience of children for years. Her voice and adventures fit is naturally with how young children communicate and for t that reason she is enjoyed by many kids. Her audience may become older, but her message and fun always seems to stay fresh and new.
Before Dora the Explorer there were many different children shows that provided an educational content for young children. In some ways ,it seemed as though they was no room for another kid’s educational program, but Dora the Explorer came on the scene and created a place where children could learn Spanish and preschool concepts. She filled a need that is continuing to be filled by her television programs.
Bilingual Dora the Explorer
One thing you will know about Dora is that she is a bilingual girl that helps teach language and educate children about age level concepts. On every adventure Dora undertakes, she teaches Spanish words to her viewers. Our super cool Exploradora is going on adventures that engage the children at home and makes them feel as though they are a part of a real exploration. Dora does this while teaching Spanish language. The teaching is done in simple ways that preschoolers can understand with almost no difficulty at all. She incorporates the Spanish into the adventure and makes everything feel seamless and natural; that is the best way for children to learn. When everything is natural and flows then children do not know that they are actually learning.
Many times Dora will teach the children basic Spanish words. Sometimes it is counting in Spanish. Other times it is learning about colors, food items, direction, or other basic Spanish concepts. In her adventure Dora will sometimes speak to her friends, who do not speak English, only in Spanish. This is another useful opportunity for children to see Spanish spoken fluently.
Dora and Her Friend Boots
Dora has many adventures with her best friend Boots. As Batman had Robin, Dora has her Boots that is always there to help solve problems. Together this perfect pair shows children that with cooperation, and hard work they can set out to complete the mission that they started.
At the beginning of each Dora the Explorer episode Dora gets a problem to solve or mission she must solve. She, along with Boots, go through several different obstacles before meeting their goal. To know where they are going they consult with Map, who is usually found in Mochilla-Dora’s backpack. Map tells Dora and the audience the way that they should travel. Usually Dora must go to two different places before going to her final destination.
Dora and Swiper the Fox
Each adventure is not without obstacles. One obstacle that she usually encounters is Swiper the Fox. Swiper usually comes around trying to take or swipe something from Dora or one of her friends. Dora and her friends must yell out “Swiper! No Swiping!” to get Swiper to stop and not take what does not belong to him. Swiping may seem like a mature topic for preschoolers, but we know that preschooler may be around someone that is doing something they should not be doing and this teaches that the preschoolers can speak up when something is wrong.
Children are also encouraged to do some physical movement to pretend that they are actually on the adventure with there. Sometimes they may have to salta-jump high or corre-run. But whatever it is, the kids will be doing it along with Dora on the television screen. Although it may just be on the television screen, this interactivity is what keeps kids coming back to watch for more.
Dora and Her Cousin Diego
Over the years Dora has become a familiar friend and consistent part of kids lives. As we have allowed her into our homes we have been introduced to many members of her family and to her friends. We know that she is the proud big sister of twin babies – a boy and a girl. She also has a several cousins, including Diego. We were first introduced to Diego on episodes of Dora the Explorer. Later on a brand new spin-off was created called “Go, Diego Go!”, in which Diego is a rescue ranger that helps out one of his animal friends. Diego brings his own personality to the show, but continues the with the ideas found in Dora the Explorer of teaching young children and being of help to friends and others.
Tween Dora the Explorer
Dora has become a household name and her show and products have been popular with children. Recently there has been a new addition to the line of the Dora the Explorer products. A more mature Dora the Explorer, tween Dora, was introduced. This new tween Dora also has a doll with other doll friends that also solve mysteries. Tween Dora is introduced for young girls that have grown out of the preschool phase, and appreciate a more mature Dora.
As the years go by we will continue to see Dora the Explorer evolve and she will be around for a very long time.
